What: A forum to begin conversation on the obstacles, joys, struggles, and solutions for motherhood in the theater. From social stigma to structure/schedules to sanity and opportunities, we will touch on common topics and also have time to share what we’ve experienced, all in all, to create a community here that will lead to productive change.

very important and a topic often discussed. But please lets also focus on women in the theater who are not actors as well. Design, tech, production….we are all fighting the good fight, balancing family, art, commerce, and the challenges of the life in the theater.

Valerie, absolutely! This blog started as the record of an actor mom, but quickly grew to include various disciplines. The “What She Looks Like” series has a range of disciplines and experiences, and the interviews, obstacles covered, and solutions offered all are gathered with an attempt at comprehension. Our forums in Chicago and now on the east coast will have varied perspectives as well. PAALtheatre.com is designed for all theatre practitioners by intention. Thank you for your comment – I absolutely agree and hope that our work going forward reflects it ❤️ keep in touch on your thoughts! Our reading series in Chicago will be produced, directed, design-crafted, acted, and managed all by parent artists. It is truly a collaboration of gifts, agreed.
